Transformation Thurrock launches new charity
PRESS RELEASE 9.10.17
On Saturday 7 October, Transformation Thurrock launched its new charity at a breakfast event held at Park Inn hotel in North Stifford.
Just under 60 people attended the celebration fundraiser. Special guests included Thurrock constituency’s MP Jackie Doyle-Price and the Mayor of Thurrock, Cllr Tunde Ojetola. Other delegates came from Havering and Dartford.
After a full English breakfast, Rev Andy Higgs of St Mary’s, North Stifford, gave thanks for what everyone had just received.
Then internationally known singer-songwriter Noel Robinson led a time of worship. This concluded with his co-written ‘Civic Hymn’, in which the appropriate line ‘Transform, revive and heal society’ is repeated at the end of each verse.
After this, the Mayor gave a short address in which he encouraged Transformation Thurrock to model reaching out between the different cultures and ethnicities represented in the borough.
A presentation was then given by Transformation Thurrock’s Chair, Colin Baker (pastor of Grays Baptist Church), Tim Harrold (creative consultant for Transformation Thurrock), and Roy Edworthy (Treasurer).
Colin talked about where Transformation Thurrock has been, going over the 9-year history of the uniting events and networking initiatives across the Christian Faith Community. He also unveiled the organisation’s new logo which he designed.
Tim spoke about where Transformation Thurrock is at the moment, and where it is going, describing the list of aims as a ‘party manifesto’.
“The possibilities are endless,” said Tim. Referring to recent national politicians’ pronouncements, he added, “We want to hear the roar of the Lion of the Tribe of Judah in Thurrock, and not simply ask what is the British Dream, but what is God’s dream for Thurrock, and to work to towards it together.”
Roy introduced a ‘priming the pump’ offering, which was taken for the future work of Transformation Thurrock, and delegates were also invited to make one-off donations or commit to monthly standing orders.
The event concluded with a prayer from Trustee Judith Acreman in which she highlighted the bottom line from the Transformation Thurrock ‘manifesto’ - that people may ‘love, bless and be speakers of life to our wonderful borough of Thurrock’.
Rev Andy Higgs then prayed for the politicians present and blessed the work of Transformation Thurrock and everyone present.
